Red Chutney For Dosa !!

This Red chutney is so versatile and one of its kind...Serves perfectly as a spread on Mysore masala dosa  or as a dip to any dosa and idli varieties...
It can be done a jiffy with just few ingredients off the pantry !!

Ingredients :
  • 1/4 cup fresh / descicated coconut
  • 1/4 cup Daliya/ roasted chana dal
  • 2 to 3 dry red chillies broken into pieces
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 onion chopped
  • A lime sized tamarind ( soak and extract the pulp )
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil ( 1 tsp + 1 tsp )
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2tsp cumin seeds
Method :
  • In a small pan add 1 tsp of oil ...once hot add the garlic cloves , onion , red chilli pieces..
  • Fry for a min or two until onion starts to caramalise a bit..
  • Next add the Roasted chana dal..fry it for couple of mins..
  • Next add the coconut...i used desicated..
  • Fry this for couple of mins as well..
  • Later turn off the heat and allow it to cool...
  • Once cooled to room temperature...add this to a blender jar along with salt and sugar....
  • Now grind this to fine paste using tamarind extract..
  • Add extra water if needed...
  • But keep it slightly thick as its easy to spread and does not afffect the texture of dasa...
  • Thick spread keeps the dosa crisp ...where as the thin chutney becoz of the water content softens the dosa...
  • But when using as a dip, consistency is totally upto your preference..
  • Once done grinding...remove it to a bowl...
  • Now make the tempering with remaining oil , mustard and cumin ...
  • And add this to the chutney...
Slightly tangy n perfectly spiced ...totally a balanced chutney is ready to make u r breakfasts even more tastier..

Make and enjoy with your family and friends...
We loved it hope you will love it too...
