Ground rice also known as rice rawa or Biyyapu rawa( telugu )...It is nothing but semolina kind ,made with rice instead of wheat..
Uthappam is a wholesome breakfast dish made using ground rice and urad dal ...
Ground rice is readily available in market but not that difficult to make at home as well..
No matter how many dishes you make,  but at times all you need is simple n comforting food!!

  • 1 cup urad dal split
  • 2.5 cups Ground rice / rice rawa
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Oil for making dosa's
  • Firstly wash n soak the dal and rice rawa in enough water ,seperately for 6 to 8 hrs or until doubled...
  • Later grind the dal into fine paste and set in a big deeper bowl..
  • Next using your palms squeeze out water from rice rawa and add to the dal paste..
  • Repeat the process of squeezing until all the rawa is done..
  • Later mix both the dal paste and rawa thourougly..
  • Cover this and set in a warm place until fermented or for overnight..
  • Next day add enough salt and adjust the consistency adding water if required..the batter has to be thick like idli batter ....
  • Heat a skillet or tawa until hot...
  • Then drizzle a drop of oil and wipe the tawa with a paper towel..
  • Now pour a laddle full of batter and spread lightly ...resulting in thick dosa ...
  • Drizzle oil at the sides and center...cook on both sides until golden n serve..
  • This is for the plain Uthappam..
  • U can use topping of veggies like onion , coriander , chillies , tomatoes chopped and grated make vegetable uthappam..
  • And just chopped onion toppings to make onion uthappam...
  • I made small veggie uthappams ...for kids..
  • No need to flip the dosa with toppings ..just cover with a lid n cook until done...

Uthappams are now ready serve it with a bowl of coconut chutney..
They taste so good n its a comfort food for me...
This reminds me of home and mom's cooking!!
Feel Nostalgic whenever i make such kind of dishes...Love you Maa !!!

**** To make ground rice at home...wash the regular raw rice and drain the water...
Now spread this on a cloth and dry in shade until  dry..
Now dry grind this rice in a blender until coarse like semolina..
U can sieve with a medium holed sieve and repeat grinding  for better results..
Once all the rice is done grinding store in a airtight container and use...
***1 cup of rice yields around a little more than half cup...
