Batata Poha / Potato Poha /Atukulu
Presenting yet another delicious breakfast recipe from Mumbai..
The so called Batata kaanda poha by Mumbaiyyas is nothing but poha recipe made using potato( Batata ) , Kaanda ( onion ) and seasoned using lemon juice ...
It is their staple breakfast recipe made very often in households n sold widely in almost all the restaurants during breakfast times...
This is very very simple n easy dish to be made and can be enjoyed at any time of the day !!
2 cups Thick / Medium Poha
2 medium potatoes peeled , diced to cubes
4 to 5 green chillies slit
2 Dry red chilles
1 onion sliced
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp urad dal
1/8 tsp turmeric
A sprig of curry leaves ( optional )
Coriander leaves few ..chopped
Salt to taste
2 to 3 tbsp Lemon / lime juice
3 to 4 tbsp oil
Wash the poha thoroughly n remove all the water and set aside..
In a Big /wide pan add the oil ...once hot add in the diced potatoes n fry until golden..
Once they are fried add in the urad dal ...n wait until it changes color ...
Now add in the mustard n cumin seeds..
Let them splutter...
Now add in the green n red chilles ..fry them for a minute and add in the sliced onions...
Let the onions fry for a min ...
Meanwhile add the salt n lemon juice to the washed Poha n mix well...
Now add this poha mix to the pan along with some turmeric..
Lower the heat n mix well with the fried potato n seasoning..
Taste n check for the salt n lemon juice..
If required add in more..
It should taste little on the sour side..
Cover n cook on low for a couple of mins ..
Later remove the lid add the chopped coriander leaves ..
Now its ready to dig in..
Make n enjoy this super simple dish for u r breakfast...trust me tastes way better than your regular cereal...
